Big hair bows are back on trend - some big enough to make the coolest Minnie Mouse wannabe look a bit mad. Marc by Marc Jacobs and Diane Von Furstenberg are just two of the designers who featured this hair trend for spring, both designers opted for over-sized, 80s looks.
Luella Spring/Summer 2010
Luella Bartley teamed her coloured bows with back combed static hair buns for an 80s vibe. She contrasted each bow with a bright coloured eyeshadow so that both the bows and eyes are the most noticable features of the model's faces.
Marc by Marc Jacobs Spring/Summer 2010
The bows at the Marc by Marc Jacobs show were huge and some were worn to the side. The hair was also frizzy with a dishevelled looked. Teamed with light pink lips and sunglasses - the looks were 80s and summery.
Diane Von Furstenberg Resort 2010
For Diane's resort collection she teamed fun summer creations with giant, patterned bows. She clashed colours and prints to great effect using the bows. I particularly like the second look, which features some splattered paint jeans and a huge purple bow.
Peter Som Spring/Summer 2010
This collection by Peter Som featured african style head wraps. The first look teams the wrap with sunglasses and a lux sportswear outfit. The second look shows off a gorgeous print dress with is paired with a simple cardigan. Both of these work really well with the hair wraps which are used to tie the looks together
Temperley Spring/Summer 2010
The Spring/Summer 2010 Temperley Collection teamed drape style dresses with spikey, stand out head pieces. These look incredible when paired with the already outstanding dresses and add a whole new element to the outfit.
How to Wear It?
- A patterned bow would look best with a toned down outfit (unless you can figure out a way to pull it off otherwise of course). Try a simple tee and jeans.
- For a summer inspired look, wear sunglasses and a stand out hairband like at the Marc by Marc Jacobs show. Throw on an 80's style dress or patterned top and shorts.
- Make sure the bow is a good bow: cheap/tacky ones won't look good and you don't want to look like your on the way to a costume party.
- Plait your hair while wet, add some mousse and let it dry. Once dry, undo the plaits and you should have wavy 80s style hair, perfect for teaming with a huge bow.
