PFW: Givenchy Autumn/Winter 2010

Riccardo Tisci used scuba diving material for some of this collection - but you’d never be able to tell. The collection was sharp and ultimately Parisian chic. There was plenty pieces which were unfussy, well designed and well put together, similar to the offering Phoebe Philo gave us for Celine this season.

The color palette revolved around black and white, with a vampy blood red thrown in too. Models wore red lipstick pouts and loose tousled hair. This was a collection full of staple’s for your wardrobe - be it a crisp white shirt or a smart, double breasted jacket - this collection had many  timeless pieces.

It didn't lack interest either - there was a number of lacy, see-through dresses, patterned tops and sculpted jackets which were mixed with the classic style pieces to give them a greater design edge.

The menswear was well designed, but mostly consisting of similar items, which felt a bit too boring for me - I love when menswear is fun and breaks through the usual “black pants and black jacket” boundary. It was a good collection by Tisci and it showed a move back towards “well made” fashion as apposed to the outlandish - an angle many designers are taking this season.
