This Spring, military took a grungy rough edge - with military green canvas, leather and distressed jeans - it is a particularly 90s grunge look - as if Kurt Cobain got stuck in a whirlpool with an army and Alexander Wang. The gritty, dirty look can be easily achieved with either vintage pieces straight from the 90s if your brave enough - or from the likes of designers Alexander Wang and Balmain who took this twist on board for their Spring/Summer collections this year.

Alexander Wang made this trend his own, and this is my favourite take on the trend for Spring/Summer. He used loose army style jackets with peep toe boots, rough plaits and leather shorts - for a truly hard look.
Balmain Spring/Summer 2010
At the Balmain show, army shirts were mixed with leather and denim for an army inspired, tough look. I especially like the second look, which features some drop-dread gorgeous leather trousers, teamed with some studded sandals.

At the Haider Ackermann show, strict military was mixed in with drapey dresses. Military gilets which cut off at the shoulder, as seen above are a simple, chic way of incorporating this trend into your wardrobe - just add some washed out jeans and studded heels.
