Statement nails are making a big comeback this Summer, from ice-cream shades to bold and bright - anything goes. We've seen Chanel release a few IT polishes in the last few months - first there was the Jade shade, a sort of minty, pastel green. Now they've also released a light, sea blue colour, named Nouvelle Vague, which we blogged about when we heard the news.
Starting Off:
before you lash on your colour of choice, remember to prepare your nails first. A good nail oil is great for malnourished, brittle nails that need a quick fix.I use a cuticle remover from time to time, but pushing any growth back works just as well. Trim any nails that need to be trimmed, and then use a nail file to gently round each nail into shape.

Choosing a Colour:
Now to the funnest part of the job: picking what colour to paint your sparkling, revitalized nails. This is all a matter of personal preference and of course, budget. If Chanel's limited edition varnishes aren't in your budget, check out Barry M and OPI - these two brands are great for on trend polishes. Barry M polishes can be a tad on the watery side, but considering the small price tag, you can easily slap on a few coats to increase the colour intensity. If you opt for a Chanel polish, make it something seasonal and special, treat it like a new accessory.

Applying the colour:
Use cotton buds dipped in nail polish remover to remove any stains on your skin - but look out for broken skin, or sudden pain will ensue! Apply in swift strokes in one direction. Allow to dry, and apply another coat if your not happy with the colour intensity.

Finishing The Look:
To finish the look, you can add a finisher or clear nail polish to keep it in place for longer. Statement nail polishes are the most noticeable when teamed with a complimentary clutch, so dig around and find one that matches. If in doubt, team with a nude/beige clutch.
