Like me, Rosie Huntington Whiteley grew up in the South West of England in Devon. And there, like me, she attended Tavistock College which is situated in the centre of a pretty little market town called Tavistock - an unlikely place to find an aspiring supermodel!
I was only in the first year of College when Rosie was in 6th form and I have only one vague memory of seeing her walk past me as I waited outside my classes. My friend, Sophia Smith, was in the same year as Rosie at College and so I asked her to share with me what Rosie was like before the fame.
"I first met Rosie in year 11 when we were both 15 or 16 as we were both studying Japanese and went on an exchange trip together for 2 weeks", Sophia exclaims. "She did some modelling whilst she was still at College and she was always well dressed. But even though her career was setting off, she sill hung out with everyone like any normal person would - at school, at parties or at the 6th form discos!"
"She stood out - I remember when she came to a 6th form disco wearing a fur coat. This was quite out of the ordinary when compared to the rest of us!"
But Rosie Huntington Whiteley isn't just any "normal person"! In 2003 whilst seeking fashion internships, Rosie was scouted by modelling agency, 'Profile' and in 2005 she moved to New York in order to boost her Modelling career. She was successful in doing so as in 2006 she walked down the runway for 'Victoria's Secret', a highly respected American lingerie brand! She is now however, situated in London.
Rosie has worked with the likes of DKNY, French Connection and Ralf Lauren and in 2008, she replaced supermodel Agyness Deyn and became the face of Burberry. It is then that she appeared alongside actor Sam Riley in Burberry's Autumn/Winter campaigns. I personally consider these advertisements to be some of her most influential and beautiful work.
I'm a massive fan of Sam Riley after seeing him in the biographical film, 'Control' and I love how the images are in black and white - they initially reminded me of the iconic 60's work of fashion photographer, David Bailey!
2008 was an excellent year for RHW - it was also the year in which she first appeared on the cover of UK's Vogue! (November Issue)
In reaching 2009, RHW was at the top and was voted 'Model of the Year' by Elle Style awards. And luckily for us it looks as though we'll be seeing a lot more of her! She's already been seen on the cover of men's magazine GQ this month which dubbed her "the most beautiful girl in Britain"!
Furthermore, she is currently the face of Monsoon's spring/summer lingerie collection!
Be sure to keep your eyes open for more Rosie next season!
