Celine Resort 2011: Minimalism Remixed

When I saw this collection, I instantly thought of the likes of Emmanuelle Alt or Frida Giannini - a powerful, fashionable woman, unafraid of looking a little bit different, someone with a distinctive, feminine style. Phoebe Philo, the mastermind, and quite the powerful, fashionable woman herself, went back to her roots for the collection, maintaining a focus on lux handbags and clutches, designed simply, but with unusual skins and neon colours - such as an acid bright, clashing yellow.
Philo’s usual minimalism was counterbalanced with layers and chunky gold choker necklaces - while a mix of styles from capes to lux sportswear marched passed the onlooker. The colour palette included a pristine white, burnt orange, brown and green. The styles ranged dramatically - from a loose two-piece consisting of flared trousers and a matching slouchy top, to lux tracksuit pants teamed with tailored t-shirts cut out in usual shapes and in contrasting shades.

One look which featured a cape teamed with tailored trousers, sunglasses and an oversized bag, conjured up images of a sophisticated, fashionable woman, perhaps a fashion editor while in the middle of a fashion week, wearing her best threads for the occasion.

The collection was reassuring and innovative - Philo at the helm of Celine has not only revitalized the label, but has totally transformed it -  into a highlight of the fashion calendar, and a commanding force in fashion.
