Fall Trend Watch: Wild Wild West

From understated, casual looks to the downright dramatic, the Wild Wild West was alive and well on the fall runways. Patterned button-downs, voluminous sleeves, plaid and classic cowboy hats graced the catwalk for an update on old favorites.

Moschino and Betsey Johnson sent striking looks out at their shows. It was a bold-brimmed cap, ruffled bustier dress and long leather gloves at Moschino. The always-zany Johnson put on quite the presentation with some interesting accessories: a floppy hat, sheriff badge, low-slung belt and holster.

But there were easier ways to incorporate the trend, like at Zac Posen. A two-toned tan button-down in a traditional western pattern worked well paired with a floaty skirt. At Ralph Lauren and Diesel, a plaid shirt was a simple look to emulate tucked into slim pants and emphasized with a black belt. Derek Lam also did a mod-reworking of the trend; an old-school hat, fresh version of the cowboy boot and this season's outerwear hit, the camel coat.

Who knew western garb could be so chic?
