Fall Trend Report: Lace

Lace became a staple for Fall/Winter this season, with lace inserts on dresses, skirts, jackets and even shoes. The delicacy of lace was often juxtaposed with harder, powerful pieces, or played down for a feminine take on the trend.

Christopher Kane's use of lace was one of the most noticeable of the season: adorning dancing dresses and biker style jackets, this was a new look at lace - and it was used to create a textured, soft look. The fabric was used similarly at Dolce and Gabbana were lace was seen hanging from skirts and added to the front of jackets for an extra eye-catching feature on an otherwise classic piece.

Marc Jacobs went for a super feminine look for his Marc by Marc Jacobs line: a pure white lace dress was seen teamed with cutesy knit socks and boots. Roberto Cavalli went big and dramatic with a billowing layer maxi-dress constructed out of the fabric, and at Valentino, it was used to make the clothing appear more fragile, delicate and ethereal.

Here is a look at some instances of lace for Fall/Winter, followed by some versatile lace pieces.
