There have been whispers about the state of models since about the beginning of this year. Some will remember when Chanel Iman said her piece on it as the CFDA reflected on how much different she was to the models of today. Comments ran along the lines of, before models were muses; they were co-consipirators with designers. This is evident when you watch documentaries like Unzipped and Issac requests things of models.
The models of the past few seasons, years even, have been all the same. We had entered the time of the nameless, faceless model as they all began to look alike. We had left the time of the supermodel, and model as muse behind, and had entered into a time where all models looked, and acted the same. Their sound was the same as well, they were on mute.
Well brands like Proenza Schouler are asking for models "with experience" and top casting agents have informed Cathy Horyn of On The Runway that they are looking for models with personality and more curves. So say goodbye to the status quo and get ready to usher in a new era of modeling. One where we know more about a model than just her pretty face.
