Nicola Formichetti Named Thierry Mugler Creative Director

Nicola Formichetti, best known as Lady Gaga's stylist (he dressed Gaga last night for the MTV VMAs in her startling all-meat outfit) has been confirmed as the new creative director of Thierry Mugler. It had been speculated that Nicola and British designer Gareth Pugh had been considered for the role, and the fashion house have confirmed today that Nicola will step in as creative director, beginning with Fall/Winter 2011 collections.

Formichetti will watch over Sebastian Peigne, who has previously worked at Balenciaga for 10 years, who will put together womenswear along with Romain Kremer, who has previously worked on experimental mens fashion, and has been named head menswear designer for the label.

He will take over from past creative director, Rosemary Rodriguez who worked with Mugler since 2008. Joel Palix, general director of the Mugler company said about the transition of the label:

“We were looking for a young talent who could really bring new energy to the brand,Nicola is a multicultural, techno-savvy expert involved in fashion, communication, image and entertainment. He and the appointed talented designers will represent a new direction for French fashion."

Nicola is currently the fashion director of Vogue Hommes Japan and a contributing editor of V, Dazed & Confused, and Another Magazine. This revamp of the house will no doubt bring a new burst of life to the Thierry Mugler name, and if his styling work with Lady Gaga is anything to go by, we're bound to see something edgy, bold and daring.
