NYFW: Marchesa Spring/Summer 2011

It was the usual case of elegance meets opulence at the Marchesa Spring/Summer 2011 presentation, shown at New York Fashion Week. The design duo behind the label, Georgina Chapman and Keren Craig once again made a crushingly beautiful collection of ball gowns, eveningwear and mini-dresses. Their design ethos has been clear from day one - to design eye-wateringly graceful gowns. This simple idea has been delicately refined to the last drop - and resulted in more tantalizing red carpet worthy gowns.

Marchesa have become a favourite during award season for celebrities, and these are more than perfect for any Oscar winner who wishes to make their night a tear jerker (not only for their speech that is). The bold sculptural designs were gravity defying, sophisticated and awe-inspiring, from the puff-ball mini-dress to the wondrously long ball gown made with what seemed to be miles of tulle. The intricate detail of each piece, along with the fabric choice was never off - always perfectly deciphered by the celebrated design duo.

This was perhaps their best collection of dresses to date, and they even tried out some trouser looks, which were similar to their dresses in design, but with a harem trouser inspired end. As a whole, it stood solid, affirming that Marchesa own the title of best modern dress label, and won’t be releasing their hold on the princess-like gowns that make it what it is.
