Gemma Ward has been off our radars for quite some time now, after proclaiming that she is taking some time off from her modelling career to pursue her acting career further. The model has previously had some acting roles, including the film The Black Balloon, and has now landed a new role in the upcoming Pirates of the Caribbean film, known as Pirates of the Caribean: On Stranger Tides.

Gemma is set to appear alongside Johnny Depp and Penelope Cruz, and will be playing the role of Queen of the Mermaids, a mermaid named Tamara. Gemma will reportedly play an integral part in the film.
In 2009, Gemma confirmed that she was retiring from modelling to focus on her acting career, after the model had disappeared from the modelling circuit since the previous year, still very much at the height of her career.

She claimed that she would return to modelling at some stage in 2010, but as this year draws to a close, we can only hope to see her reappear next year after filming wraps up, or at least land another role so we can have another fix of the Australian beauty!
