MFW: Marni Spring/Summer 2011

Sporty met sophistication at the Marni Spring/Summer 2011 presentation - poppy prints clashed with stripes and striking cut-outs for a swimwear inspired collection that included an elegant touch, mainly with fitted, tailored jackets and svelte LBDs. Floral prints were clashing with red flowers splashed on pink, while elsewhere pastel shades harmonized together, often boldly teamed with sporty shapes such as a pair of wetsuit inspired shorts or a swim hat.

It was evidently a shock to the system after all of the elegance and grown-up sophistication that we’ve witnessed so far by the likes of Gucci, Fendi and Jil Sander, but a welcome change, that seemed to strike the right balance between youthful and sophisticated.

It was fun, tasteful and a feast for the eyes, while the striking patterns, colourful accessories and daring layers which were artfully constructed, kept your mind racing. Consuelo Castiglioni, the creative director has injected something new into what we usual see from Marni, by combining athletic inspired pieces with a more luxurious aesthetic, she was on to a winner.
