Tyra Banks was born December 4th, 1973 in Los Angeles, California. When she was in high school she decided to become a model. After being turned down by a few modeling agencies, Tyra was finally signed with Elite Model Management when she was 17. Tyra then moved to Paris for a year and modeled for Fendi, Marina Spadafora, Oliver by Valentino and Ralph Lauren. After a year in Paris she moved back to the U.S. and continued her modeling career.
Tyra’s career soon took off, as she walked the runways at London, Paris, Milan, Tokyo and the U.S. She also landed fashion magazine covers of Vogue, Elle, and Harper’s Bazaar. In 1996 she landed a modeling contract with Victoria’s Secret. After many years of having a successful modeling career with Victoria’s Secret, Tyra walked the runway for the last time in 2005.
Throughout her modeling career Tyra expanded her resume by landing a role in the Fresh Prince of Bel-Air where she played Jackie Ames. She also appeared on Felicity and MADtv. Tyra landed a few movie roles including John Singleton’s Higher Learning, Love Stinks, Love & Basketball, Life-Size, and Coyote Ugly.
In 2000, Tyra became producer, hostess and head judge of America’s Next Top Model a successful reality show that is still going strong today. In 2005, Tyra Banks decided to have her own talk show; The Tyra Banks Show which is also going strong today. After having a successful modeling career Tyra Banks officially retired from modeling in 2005.
