Original Supermodel: Christy Turlington

Christy Turlington is considered one of the original supermodels of the 1990’s. Turlington was born January 2, 1969 in Walnut Creek, California, USA. At the age of 13 she was discovered by a man named Dennie Cody. Christy then signed with a local modeling agency and soon fashion agencies were demanding Christy Turlington for their photo shoots.

Soon, Christy’s popularity with fashion agencies reached New York and Eileen Ford, a top model scout offered Christy a job in Paris. Sadly, Christy’s photo shoots in Europe weren’t successful and Christy decided to return to the US. In 1985, after returning from Europe, she appeared in Vogue with Eileen Fords help. Christy then decided to finish high school before continuing her modeling career. In 1987, Christy did a cover shoot for Vogue Italia and her modeling career subsequently took off.

Christy was then asked to walk for designers such as Chanel, Christian Lacroix, Gianni Versace, and Azzedine Alaia. In 1989, Christy signed a contract with Calvin Klein and began representing his perfume Eternity and then Maybelline asked Christy to represent their cosmetics line. In 1994, Christy went back to school and in 1999 graduated from the Gallatin School of Individualized Study of New York University (NYU), where she earned a Bachelor of Arts degree with a concentration in Comparative Religion and Eastern Philosophy.

Christy has participated in a number of volunteer organizations including Fashion Targets Breast Cancer and PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals). She welcomed her first child; a baby girl named Grace on October 25, 2003 and later welcomed her second child a baby boy named Finn on February 11, 2006.
