Original Supermodel: Naomi Campbell

 Naomi Campbell is the last original supermodel of the 1990’s. Naomi Campbell was born May 22, 1970, in London, England. Naomi studied at the London Academy for Performing Arts before signing with Synchro Modeling Agency at the age of 15. Naomi quickly landed the covers of French and British Vogue, becoming the first black model to appear on these covers.
Besides landing the covers of Vogue, Harper’s Bazaar and Elle in the early 1990’s Naomi Campbell made appearances on the runway for labels such as Alberta Ferretti, Armand Basi, Blumarine, Chanel, Chloé, Gianfranco Ferré, Yves Saint Laurent, Anna Sui, Antonio Berardi, Christian Dior, Fendi, Gianni Versace, Givenchy, Helmut Lang, Isaac Mizrahi, Jean Paul Gaultier, John Galliano, Karl Lagerfeld, Marc Jacobs, Prada, Elie Saab, Valentino and Ralph Lauren. Naomi also landed high-profile advertising campaigns for Francois Nars, Ralph Lauren, Prada, Dolce & Gabbana, Louis Vuitton, Yves Saint Laurent and Valentino.

Besides having a successful modeling career, Naomi Campbell also pursued acting and music careers. Her music career was highly successful in Japan. She has also appeared in several music videos with Michael Jackson, Madonna, Usher, Prince and Jay-Z. Naomi made an appearance in a few feature films including: Cool As Ice, Miami Rhapsody, Invasion of Privacy, Prisoner of Love and The Call.
 
Naomi co-authored the bestselling novel Swan and then followed up with a photo book titled Naomi. She has been active promoting the welfare of children in Africa since 1997 and since then has worked with Nelson Mandela. Naomi also joined the Dalai Lama in fundraising efforts to build kindergarten for poor communities worldwide. In 2005, following Hurricane Katrina, Naomi contributed to the Fashion Relief, which raised more than $1 million for the Hurricane Katrina victims.
