Perhaps I am a little slow on the uptake because when I discovered that Sandra Backlund’s knitwear line has been around for almost seven years I was undoubtedly shocked and disappointed by my lackluster fashion radar. However, in my defense, 2010 was the first year that Sandra’s collection went in to production. Previously, she was doing everything by hand and selling her designs only by special order.
A graduate of Stockholm’s Beckermans College of Design, Backlund is a true artiste. A modern day Rodin, Backlund sculpts for her consumer magnificent garments that not only adorn the body but also make the figure appear statuesque. For her most recent collection, Backlund creates beautiful silhouettes through structured metal like knits that incorporate a neutral palette to convey a fashion metropolis.
