Trend: Belt Purses

I like to consider myself a fairly "on trend" individual, but every now and then fashion opens up the flood gates to something I can't even defend. This time around that trend is the fanny pack...well, more affectionately known in the fashion community as "the belt purse."

They made their mark in the 80s and vanished in the 90s for what we had hoped might be forever. Alas, fashion does like to repeat itself, so we've been seeing these pop up on the runway for a few seasons now. But no other collections were as heavily saturated with the trend as SS11. And sure, they aren't the neon nylon fanny packs worn with the matching windbreakers anymore—now, designers have put a chic and pulled-together twist on the formerly risible waist purse.

If you do decide to embrace this trend, remember to wear the "purse" part to the side (in the middle is so 1988). And keep your belt purse higher on your hips for a more fun, less functional look—it is an accessory afterall, right? Though the belt purse is not something I find very convincing, if I were going to test the waters, there would be no other way for me to go than these luxy interpretations of the trend seen below.

What do you guys think? Tacky or practical?
