John Galliano was reportedly arrested and briefly detaned by French police in Paris last night (Thursday, 24th of February 2011) for alleged assault as well as making anti-Semitic remarks. According to one report which has been released, the arrest was made in the Marais district after Galliano was found to be verbally accosting a couple who were seated on a terrace in a cafe.

A police source stated on the matter: "For the moment we don't know what led him to address the couple."
Galliano, aged 50 was found to have been drinking alcohol (he had a blood alcohol level of 1.1mg per litre of air breathed out) when he was detained. He was now been released and charges against the famous Gibraltar-born designer are pending.
He is expected to show two collections next week at Paris Fashion Week - his John Galliano label as well as Christian Dior's Autumn/Winter 2011 collection. He began his work for Christian Dior in 1996.
No more information about the arrest or alleged assault has been released as of yet.
