Mandy Coon S/S 2011 Lookbook

She may have tried out being a model and a DJ before winding up as a designer, but Mandy Coon is setting the New York fashion design scene into a frenzy, with many naming her one of the most inspirational emerging talents on the scene. For her Spring/Summer 2011 show, the rising designer put together a collection inspired by one simple word: jellyfish.  Mandy explained the concept: "I am terrified of jellyfish, but I also find them so incredibly beautiful. I vacationed in Tulum a few weeks after my last show and while there, I was completely enchanted by these haunting creatures, reconnecting me with this childhood fascination."

Mandy also comments that she is close to refining the ideas of her label and composing what gives her designs her own signature: "I think that this collection was a bit lighter, maybe more playful. I think I am definitely getting closer- I try to always keep my pieces structural, yet playful, always adding a little wink to them." Below is a look at the Spring/Summer 2011 lookbook, which was photographed by Ruvan Wijesooriy.
