Mandy also comments that she is close to refining the ideas of her label and composing what gives her designs her own signature: "I think that this collection was a bit lighter, maybe more playful. I think I am definitely getting closer- I try to always keep my pieces structural, yet playful, always adding a little wink to them." She may have tried out being a model and a DJ before winding up as a designer, but Mandy Coon is setting the New York fashion design scene into a frenzy, with many naming her one of the most inspirational emerging talents on the scene. For her Spring/Summer 2011 show, the rising designer put together a collection inspired by one simple word: jellyfish. Mandy explained the concept: "I am terrified of jellyfish, but I also find them so incredibly beautiful. I vacationed in Tulum a few weeks after my last show and while there, I was completely enchanted by these haunting creatures, reconnecting me with this childhood fascination."
