MFW: Missoni Autumn/Winter 2011

Candy coloured slouchy ensembles were the port of call this season at the Missoni Autumn/Winter 2011 show. Angela Missoni’s designs were this season inspired by her daughter Teresa’s dress sense, and with sweeping dresses, tangerine coloured biker jackets and chunky gradient knits mixed in with many layered ensembles, there was a renewed sense of youth on show. Described by Margherita, Angela’s other daughter simply as a ‘fairytale’ there was a bubblegum quality to each ensemble.

Layers upon layers were piled neatly together incorporating knitted hats, printed shirts and a range of sheer printed maxi-dresses, as well as some tailored blazers to smarten up the slouchy nonchalant layers present. Billowing textured canary-yellow coats were teamed with tangerine tops, while elsewhere Missoni’s signature knits were present, many knitted purposefully loosely to make large gapping holes.

With both Angela’s daughters getting involved in some way in this collection, it was clear that even when the head designer of the family-orientated label takes a back seat, the Missoni label is still at its best, and perhaps even better for having a youthful touch.
