Christophe Decarnin Has Left Balmain

Balmain have just announced this morning that Christophe Decarnin is leaving his job as head designer. Decarnin has been creative director of the French label since 2007, becoming part of the Balmain team in 2005. According to a report by WWD, his decision to leave the label was fueled by a grudge held against chairman Alain Helvin. Helvin issued a statement earlier this morning regarding Decarnin's departure:

'Since 1945, the house of Pierre Balmain has been one of the leading French and international luxury brands. Christophe Decarnin’s work with the house’s design team contributed to the success that the brand has enjoyed in recent years.'

Decarnin was a no show for the Balmain Autumn/Winter 2011 catwalk show this season, but according to an insider, he was given doctor's orders not to work. Reports say that Decarnin is likely to be replaced by someone who is already working at Balmain, and that an announcement will be made shortly. No word yet as to where he will be moving on to, but there is an opening at Christian Dior yet to be filled, or perhaps he will replace the person who is given the Dior job at their current job? Let the rumors begin!
