Andrej Pejic Responds to Dossier Cover Censorship

19-year-old androgynous model Andrej Pejic has made his voice heard about the recent cover censorship. Andrej appears with his torso on show on the cover of the latest issue of Dossier, but several stores that stock the magazine, including Barnes & Noble, requested that the issue was placed inside a plastic cover bag because they felt Andrej could be mistaken for a topless female.

Responding to the censorship, Andrej comments that the artistic cover shouldn't be censored, and shows the same amount of nudity as any fitness magazine. He commented:

'I think the question really isn’t the gender of the person on the cover, it’s whether it’s porn or it’s art,' he explained. 'And clearly, it’s art, so art really should not be censored in a democratic society.'

Andrej says that the cover image isn't sexual, but that isn't what is important: 'But even that, I think, is irrelevant, it’s art, so I don’t think it should be censored at all. It’s not any sort of sexual image.' He continued, joking: 'I have just been named the 98th sexiest woman in the world, so it makes the situation a little bit confusing for them.'

Dossier co-founder and creative director Skye Parrott told Jezebel.com that what happened wasn't expected:
'We knew that this cover presented a very strong, androgynous image, and that could make some people uncomfortable. That's partly why we chose it. I guess it has made someone pretty uncomfortable. I've been talking to all my friends who work in magazines, and nobody I know has ever heard of anything like this happening, especially with a guy. Guys are shirtless on magazine covers all the time."

Below is the cover which has now been covered up by many of those who stock it - should it have been censored? Tell us what you think in the comments!
