The Hotel du Cap in the Antibes, France is Karl Lagerfeld's choice for launching this year's Chanel Cruise 2012 collection. Lying on the French Riviera and with views from the hotel of breeze-blown palm trees and bobbing yachts, Karl didn't have to travel far to find a place where Chanel's glamour and luxury feels at home. Viewers lounged on stripped wooden furniture as they took in the latest offering from the label.
The tailoring gradually relaxed to include slouchy trousers, billowing shirts and flowing dresses. Kristen McMenamy later lead what appeared to be a makeshift wedding complete with groom in tow, while many celestial white gowns and dresses backed up the angelic bridal theme that rounded off the show. The collection fluctuated from time to time: the menswear was disappointing (black from head to toe? boring) and the cohesiveness slowly melted away to become a jumble of Karl's ideas - some good, some not so.
Lagerfeld's ideas were not complete on the ball this time, but equally there was plenty of wearable looks that summed up what he wanted to get across, and his touch of classic luxury is hard to come by.
