10-Year-Old Model Thylane Blondeau's Mother Responds to Criticism

Since last week, when we first blogged about rising 10-year-old model Thylane Blondeau (read it here), a swirl of interest has surrounded the model and her shoot for Vogue Paris in which she is dressed like a fully grown woman. The shoot is being criticized for creating a sexualized image of young girls, and has quickly spiraled into full media coverage, being featured on Good Morning America yesterday. With all the controversy surrounding the young model, her mother Veronika Loubry, a French TV presenter and fashion designer, has commented on the shoot. She told Jean-Marc Morandini (a French journalist and blogger):

“I find a Petit Bateau commercial with a little 11 year old girls with hard nipples much more shocking. My daughter isn’t even naked, no need to blow this out of proportion!”.

Her mother has since deleted a Facebook page dedicated to Thylane, while she left a message to the group followers explaining:

A Tumblr site which showed the model and her work has since closed down, although Thylane's Facebook fan page is still up and running, but is receiving many comments from people who have heard about the story and are "disgusted". With so many media sources calling the model's work "creepy", and so many complains being thrown around in comments, it looks as though Thylane may have to take a break from her modeling career.
