Inspired by the 1920's and all things Art Deco this season, head designer Frida Giannini commented on her new Gucci collection, stating that her inspiration came from buildings: "I like the architectural shapes, especially the New York skyscrapers of the period." Gucci celebrate their 90th anniversary this year - the label was founded in 1921, which makes the theme she has taken her inspiration from fit so perfectly in with the milestone. However, Giannini didn't overplay the vintage theme, mixing graphic thick stripes, splashes of rich colour, lashings of fringe, gold embroidery and many more lavish finishing touches.
The collection was powerful, sophisticated and with a sharp, dark elegance that was effortlessly modern. 90 years after it began, Gucci continues to be synonymous with luxury, as Giannini firmly holds the reins at one of the most important fashion houses in the world, creating collection after collection with all of the qualities of a doting perfectionist.
