The Marc by Marc Jacobs Spring/Summer 2012 presentation melded a sporty preppy vibe with loose feminine silhouettes and attention-grabbing accessories (cube shaped purses and duo-coloured heels, as well as transparent visors). Marc's vision of summer is a colourful one: a bright orange shift dress opened the show, and more colour poured down the runway soon after: orange, dark red and even a neon pink stripe here and there, coordinated with a simple deep navy and military green.
Marc's free-flowing shapes were counterbalanced with some tightly constructed pieces, shaped with peplums, ruffles and ruching, all of which also added a sharp feminine note. Sprinkling sporty references with the use of jersey material, as well as some colour coordinating trainers worn by some of the models, there was a relaxed mixture of sporty inspired casual pieces, but also something more girly: printed full skirts with bird silhouettes, sculpted swimsuits with a retro beat and simply designed light button-down coats.
Marc's diffusion line hasn't strayed far from what it is all about: it's youthful, fresh and easy to wear, which has been designed expertly to look breezily cool and effortless, and it is.
