Vogue Nippon's new photo shoot which sees Crystal Renn pose with taped back eyes has already stirred controversy and it hasn't even been released yet. The shoot was styled by Anna Dello Russo, who uploaded a preview that includes behind the scenes footage to Youtube. In the video, Crystal can be seen having her makeup done, and her eyes are clearly taped back, giving her an Asian, almond-shaped eye which has been deemed racist. The model appears to be posing in a matador-inspired masculine outfit created by Dolce & Gabbana for one of the photographs, as well as a glittery gold dress with red lipstick for another.
Some have suggested that the eyes have been taped to give her face a more masculine structure, while other blogs clearly find it offensive - Styleite’s Julia Rubin compared it to fashion’s recent use of 'blackface'. Below is the video in question: let us know what you think in the comments.
