Russian model Natalia Vodianova has made a controversial comment on the subject of weight. Attending Vogue's recent Fashion Festival in London, Natalia spoke on the subject of her trim figure, stating:
“C’mon guys, you know it’s better to be skinny than to be fat.”
She quickly added than by "fat" she means obese:
“NHS are fighting against obesity… children taken away from their parents because they are too fat–read Daily Mail.”
Natalia previously spoke out against eating disorders at a CFDA event, telling the candid story of how early on in her career a friend told her she was too skinny. She decided to add some weight, and when she did she was told she needed to drop the weight by her agent because designers were complaining. Natalia spoke at the event:
“I defended myself, saying it was crazy to consider measurements like 33-27-34 to be normal. I think because I was one of the girls most in demand it helped me to be able to forget the incident quickly. On the other hand, it makes me think that if I had been weak at the time, I can really imagine how it could have helped me endanger myself.”
