Why This Vogue Russia Editorial Subtly Pushes Boundaries

This delicate, fresh looking editorial featured inside the June 2012 issue of Vogue Russia looks at first glance to be very innocent, but there is a subtle undertone created, a sort of sexual chemistry between the two girls that hints that they might be more than just friends. The reason why this gently pushes boundaries is simple - it isn't shouting out about the possible lesbian subject matter, it is just there in a very gentle manner, it doesn't have to be the focus point of the shoot, or the thing that makes it stand out.

It presents the relationship as intimate and personal, without having to specifically make it look obviously sexual or even give it a title that indicates the nature of the relationship (it's named 'Sorrow and Beauty'). Josephine Skriver and Patricia van der Vliet are strikingly beautiful in this soft, feminine shoot that was brilliantly captured by photographer Benny Horne.
