Never one to stray away from saying something controversial, Karl Lagerfeld has spoken on the subject of model eating disorders. When asked by a reporter if he would ever consider making clothes for "healthier models", he responded:
"I’m sorry to say it’s a subject that I consider on the bar of ridiculous for several reasons. The story with anorexic girls–nobody works with anorexic girls. It has nothing to do with fashion. People who have that, they have issues with family and things like this."
Karl says that he thinks the real problem with the world is obesity, and that junk food is worse than those who suffer from anorexia, and that the problem is bigger simply because the percentage of those who are overweight outweighs those who are anorexic:
"There are less than 1% of an girls [who are] anorexic, but in France over 30% of girls are big overweight. And that is much more dangerous and very bad for the health. So I think today with the junk food in front of the TV and things like that is something dangerous for the health or to girls. The models are skinny but they’re not that skinny."
When asked if he feels responsible to look after models in this regard, Karl comments by vaguely stating:
"If Twiggy would come today, everyone would say, ‘too skinny.’”
I really appreciate your share here about the food and health related topic. Keep sharing.
