16-year-old newcomer model Ondria Hardin has already made a name for herself as the current face of Chanel (see the photos here), but now she has been put in an uncomfortable position by Numéro Paris who have stirred up a considerable amount of controversy surrounding their latest shoot. The model is painted in head-to-toe dark bronze paint, effectively 'blackface'.
The photographer who created the editorial Sebastian Kim has yet to comment while makeup artist Maud Laceppe was responsible for the makeup. The shoot is named 'African Queen'. This isn't the first time an editorial featuring 'blackface' has caused outrage, so why did Numéro actually run this story?
With no shortage of black models - is this a mass insult to all of the talented black models they could have used or just an artistic expression?
