Fashion's designer reshuffle has just reached a dizzying climax: it has just been confirmed that Nicolas Ghesquière is the new creative director of Louis Vuitton, taking over now that long-time designer Marc Jacobs has left his position at the fashion house.
Replaced at Balenciaga by Alexander Wang, Ghesquière was the front-runner for the Louis Vuitton role as soon as Jacobs' departure was announced.
A representative for Louis Vuitton commented that the designer will bring:
“a modern creative vision to the house’s women’s collections, building on the values of refinement, savoir faire and extreme quality.”
Ghesquière spoke on taking the role:
“Louis Vuitton has always incarnated for me the symbol of ultimate luxury, innovation and exploration, I am very honored of the mission that I am entrusted with, and proud to join the history of this great maison. We share common values and a vision.”
