Controversy as Barbara Palvin Portrayed as Prostitute in L'Officiel Editorial?

The internet is aghast as Hungarian VS babe Barbara Palvin has been accused of portraying a prostitute in the most recent issue of L'Officiel Paris. There is one image that is causing offence on message boards and forums, as the others do seem apparently innocuous - the offending image features Palvin sitting on the edge of the bed with an older man laying sleeping behind her.

The prevailing interpretation is that he is a client and she is a young prostitute. Whilst this may not be the case, it certainly raises questions as to the portrayal of women in fashion magazines - do magazines have a social responsibility to portray women in a positive aspirational light? After all, magazines are opinion formers and dictators of social norms. The blame in this instance wholly rests with the photographer Romain Gavras and the publication itself - not Palvin, who must be left wondering what exactly was the intended concept.
