Abbey Lee Kershaw Turns Down 95% of Modelling Jobs She's Offered

Australian model-turned-actress Abbey Lee Kershaw is making a big move into the acting world. She has already appeared in 'Mad Max: Fury Road' and she says taking on the role was life changing: “When I booked Mad Max I realised it was everything I should have been doing my whole life, I was feeling frustrated and unfulfilled by modelling and (acting) came along and it just seemed to fill all the holes.”

She is also set to appear in 'Gods of Egypt' and 'The Neon Demon', while her latest work in Australian film 'Ruben Guthrie' has just debuted. Abbey says she rarely takes on modelling work now and turns down 95 per cent of what she is offered. She is keen to be taken seriously as an actress: “I have backed away from 95 per cent of the modelling jobs that I am being offered. And I have turned down roles that would have been career suicide. Absolutely. I don’t want to get pigeonholed into ditzy, blonde roles, the girlfriend role that has no depth or value to it. I am interested in building a strong body of work not just being in as many films as I can. I want to be taken seriously as an actress so I am being really careful with the characters I play.”

She adds that she doesn't know exactly what she's doing and is working on instinct: “At the moment I am just trusting my instinct and also trusting the people who are working around me. When somebody says you are **** or it starts to feel wrong, then maybe I will have to second guess what I am doing. But right now I have people around me who are positive and supporting what I am doing. There is nobody saying I think you should give this another look.”
