Each season when Fashion Week rolls around, the streets of New York, London, Paris and Milan are filled with models displaying their unique personal style: but at the foundation of every original outfit there are often a few staples that are seen again and again - the designs that are timeless street style classics and a must for any wardrobe. We run through three of these model-inspired street style must-haves that are 'no fails' when it comes to chic off-duty dressing.
1. The Long Pencil Skirt
The pencil skirt is always a flattering, hourglass-accentuating design - and it's an instantly elegant piece to wear. Make like Polish model Anja Rubik and style yours with bare legs, statement ankle boots and an oversized knit sweater to create a striking silhouette, or add a backless bodysuit underneath, paired with sandals and your favourite jewels for a figure-flaunting yet relaxed twist on the look. It's a piece that can be styled in so many ways to suit your existing wardrobe so it's easy to seamlessly integrate into what you already have.
A sophisticated black top in a flattering cut such as asymmetric drape (try this one by Tahari ASL), is a short-cut to sophistication - and in particular, a must for any minimal-loving dresser. Tucked in to any dress or skirt, this is a fool-proof piece that is simple and easy to adapt. Go monochrome and graphic by pairing your black top with a white skirt or trousers, or add a bold print on your lower half: this can be worked into so many current trends - give it a '70s twist with a pair of high-waisted flares.
3. Tailored Trousers
Masculine-inspired tailoring has become so popular it is now a season-less and on-going trend, particularly when it comes to street style. Models regularly give their black tailored trousers a fresh twist; adding trainers or a feminine blouse to give it their own personalised take. Sunghee Kim's outfit here demonstrates how to wear it - she is effortless with a slouchy tucked-in blouse and some unique accessories.
